Description
The Bottalack mines were a group of mines around the Cornish village of Bottalack on the west coast of Cornwall from where copper, tin and arsenic were mined for many centuries - some say from as far back as roman times or even the Bronze age. The buildings visible here are from the 18th Century and are, I believe, the Crown mines although, many of the mines which formed part of the group are within close proximity. Many of them went down 250 fathoms (about 500 m) and outwards laterally about the same distance in all directions as well as under the sea. With the weather coming straight off the Atlantic, it can get very wet and windy on this rugged coastline. I have added colour and texture for artistic and dramatic effect.
